What sets this robot vacuum apart from the rest of the iRobot range is its ‘Dirt Detective’ feature, which means it automatically cleans the dirtiest rooms first and learns your cleaning habits, so it can make personalised suggestions to improve your routine.

It’s chunkier, for a start, and has a flat front and pelo spinning brushes at the side. It also has the most powerful suction of any robot vacuum we tried, which did mean it picked up plenty of dirt and debris around the home.

When used as a mop and tasked with tackling a large dollop of BBQ sauce, it only left behind small streaks. It also has a handy ‘Auto-Retract Mopping System’, which stops your carpets getting too wet.

✔️ Battery life and dust cup: Let the size of your home guide you. If you live in a small apartment, you can consider a corded vacuum or one that doesn’t need as much battery life; if you have multiple floors, you'll want a longer run time and a bigger dust cup. If you have stairs, you’ll need a vacuum that can easily go up and down each step all while picking up dirt and dust.

While we aren’t the biggest fan of Eufy’s app, it’s smart enough to map your home automatically, and you can customise how hard it mops, how deep it cleans and the level of suction power it exerts. It’s a really smart little vacuum that needs almost no human input to work.

We look at whether there's any remnants left after a single pass from the robot vacuum, and if it catches them on a second run. We repeat these tests for both hard floor and carpet.

For those without this feature, be aware that due to their size, the dust canister will need to be emptied more frequently than a regular vacuum cleaner.

It also took a few passes to get all the pet hair, but it was particularly good at reaching into crevices and corners on hard flooring, thanks to its side brush. It also mopped well with minimal smearing.

On the navigation front, we'll also test the robot vacuum's edge cleaning abilities – does it get right up to the edges of rooms, or leave a margin that needs manual cleaning.

As for its cleaning, it's great on larger debris like Rice Krispies and can give a large room a good clean, but it fell down on finer dust and debris on carpet, Top 3 Automatic Vacuum Cleaners so it's probably best for keeping on top of mess, rather than as your sole cleaner.
